Kaneka Co-Produces “Secrets of the SDGs Goal 14: Life Below Water” with Gakken Inc.

Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuhiko Fujii) has collaborated with Gakken Inc. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Tatsuya Nanjo; hereinafter "Gakken") to produce an educational manga for elementary school students, “Secrets of the SDGs Goal 14: Life Below Water *1 ” featuring KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green Planet™ (hereinafter "Green Planet").February 10, 2025
A total of 24,000 copies will be donated to approximately 20,000 elementary schools (including special support schools), 3,200 public libraries, and 800 children's centers across Japan via Gakken.
Green Planet is a 100% biomass-derived biodegradable polymer developed by Kaneka based on our desire to provide environmentally friendly solutions that do not depend on petroleum resources. Due to its biodegradability into CO2 and water in soil and seawater, it can contribute to solving the problem of marine plastic pollution.
This manga was produced with the aim of communicating the importance of contribution to SDGs and deepening understanding of the conservation and sustainable use of marine resources children who will lead the future by introducing the development and initiatives of Green Planet, with regard to the SDGs Goal 14.
Kaneka provides unique environmental education programs using Green Planet, which contributes to solving the problems of plastic pollution. Through Green Planet, we will continue to work on solving various environmental issues such as marine plastic pollution and CO2 emissions, as well as raising children's awareness of environmental issues from an educational perspective and creating opportunities for them to take the initiative in leading sustainable living.

Gakken has been publishing this series of educational manga for over 20 years, introducing a variety of themes in an easy-to-understand manner for elementary school students. It is also used in educational settings as a recommended book by the Parents & Teachers Association of Japan. The special edition, “Secrets of the SDGs”, explains one 17 SDGs goals in each edition. Please note that this series is not for sale and is not available in bookstores. It is published online for free from February 10, Monday, on the following website, so please take a look.
