Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Kazuhiko Fujii; hereinafter "Kaneka") has announced that its film and foam molded products using KANEKA Biodegradable Polymer Green PlanetTM (hereinafter "Green Planet") has been adopted by Suzuki Motor Corporation (Chuo-ku, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka; President: Toshihiro Suzuki; hereinafter “Suzuki”) as a packaging material for outboard motors. The film is used to make dust covers for outboard motors and bags for ancillary parts, while the foam is used as cushioning material.

Green Planet is a 100% biomass-derived biodegradable biopolymer developed by Kaneka based on our desire to provide environmentally friendly solutions that do not depend on petroleum resources. It has excellent biodegradability in a wide range of environments and easily decomposes in soil and seawater, returning to CO2 and water, thus contributing to solving plastic pollution.

Suzuki launched the "Suzuki Clean Ocean Project" and has promoted efforts to solve the issue of marine plastic waste. The environmental performance of Green Planet is highly regarded by the Suzuki Marine Division, which has set a target to reduce the use of petroleum-derived plastics in the packaging of finished outboard motors produced in Japan to zero by 2026, leading to the adoption of this product.

Based on our mission of "KANEKA thinks 'Wellness First'.", Kaneka provides value globally as a solution provider. Based on the development of technologies and applications using our unique polymer and biotechnologies, we will contribute to the realisation of a sustainable society by promoting Green Planet on a global scale.
