Kaneka Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Minoru Tanaka) will begin self-consignment of power, sending some of the power generated at the Kaneka Takasago Distribution Center to other Group sites. This project, which will begin in December 2022, will be a collaborative effort between Kaneka, Osaka Gas Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture; President: Masataka Fujiwara), and Daigas Energy Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Osaka City, Osaka Prefecture; President: Masayuki Inoue).

In self-consignment, electrical power generated at an enterprise-owned power plant is sent via a power company's power distribution network to other enterprise-owned facilities. This approach has recently drawn attention due to its potential for contributing to decarbonization. In this project, 1,180kW of photovoltaic modules have been installed on the roof and walls of the distribution center. The distribution center will use the power it generates in-house, and surplus power will be sent to Kaneka Foods Manufacturing Corporation (Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture), a member of the Kaneka Group. This is expected to reduce the Kaneka Group’s annual CO2 emissions by roughly 270 tons.

In order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050, we will cut direct CO2 emissions by switching to alternative fuels for in-house power generation equipment and by revamping our production processes. Furthermore, we will utilize self-consignment to provide excess power from photovoltaic module equipment installed in Kaneka sites to other sites. Through this, we will cut CO2 emissions by roughly 30% by 2030 (vs. 2013 levels). We have begun coordinating with local governments to supply value to the whole society as well as our Group companies. We will broadly implement total energy solutions using our environment-friendly products, such as photovoltaic modules and insulation materials, throughout communities to make the world a healthier place.
